My alarm sounded, and I jolted upright, confusion swimming through my mind. I slapped my phone, trying to get it to shut off. It was early, that much I knew, but the remaining details took a little longer to come back to me.
As I glanced around, eyes adjusting to the darkness, I began to realize where I was. There were the giant ovens and cooling racks, and all the glass that made up the bakery. Shit. The memories of the night before came rushing back to me, the way Daniel had felt under my touch, the way heâd felt around me as I screwed him.
When weâd finished, we were both exhausted, and he offered that he kept cots around just in case, so weâd grabbed them, falling asleep quickly despite it maybe being easier if we hadnât. He was already up, I realized, glancing over to the other cot. It wasnât the best place to sleep after banging, but I supposed it would do. Iâd been in stranger positions.
Silently, I watched him do his little dance around the bakery. He cleaned the table of our fateful encounter, even though heâd also insisted on doing it the night before, even when I told him it could wait. But he was stubborn. He couldnât be talked into something if he didnât want to.
He was fully dressed again and hummed something quietly to himself. I couldnât help but smile as I watched, even as he scrubbed the table clean of whatever he imagined was still there. He sighed and sprayed the table again, and then he was off, grabbing different ingredients from around him.
Daniel didnât miss a beat. He wouldnât allow himself to, even if something unexpected occurred. Heâd also insisted on putting away the mini wedding cake heâd made properly, citing that it was too much effort to just let dry up.
But it was cute, just how uptight he could be. Unfortunately, the morning and the mail waited for no one. So I needed to get a move on. I sat up on the bed, raising my hands overhead in an exaggerated stretch.
âOh, hey,â he said cheerfully, as though he hadnât heard my alarm already go off.
âHey, yourself,â I said, a faint smile rising to my lips. I stood, walking over to where he cracked eggs into a bowl. âWhat are you making?â I asked, wrapping my arms around his waist and hooking my chin on his shoulder.
Daniel hummed softly, âBlueberry muffins right now. Did you sleep okay?â He didnât seem to mind the way I held him, still just adding his ingredients around me.
âNot too bad, no. I would have slept better if you were with me, though,â I said, unable to resist.
He laughed. âTheyâre too small for that.â
That didnât mean he didnât want to, that just meant he was trying to find the practical reason why he couldnât. âOh yeah? Fair enough, maybe next time.â
Daniel snorted. âHow about I make you a coffee, hm?â
âYes, please,â I agreed, releasing his thin waist from my grasp.
